OS X application can be used to build, edit and export a ‘BIM database’ from 3D models

bim.aero is a new Mac OS X application that allows users to build a ‘BIM database’ from CAD models and other 3D data types including SketchUp, 3DTurbo, Collada, OBJ + MTL, STL and Alembic.

The free software contains standard IFC property and quantity templates that allow the enrichment of BIM entities. Data can be extended with custom property information. The resulting BIM projects are exportable via the IFC 2×3 format. According to the developers, the software can handle big models and features advanced searching tools and navigation interfaces.

bim.aero is also billed as a powerful 3D visualization solution to highlight or expose CAD and BIM projects using the latest Mac technologies to show or hide explicit details with many kinds of rendering options, tools and styles.

Quantities properties

Future releases of bim.aero will include support for FBX, DXF, and 3DS file formats. The developers also plan to bring more intelligence to help the user by progressively automating classification.

bim.aero is available for free on the Mac App Store. The advanced searching tools and the IFC 2×3 export module are available via an inApp purchase. The bim.aero Premium Pack costs $79.99.
